1 Of understanding to David, when he was in the cave, a prayer.
1 Of understanding. For David. A prayer when he was in the cave. 1 Kings 24. In this way wherein I walked, they have hidden a snare for me. Deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I.
2 With my voice I have cried to our Lord: with my voice I have prayed to our Lord:
2 I cried1 to the Lord with my voice: with my voice I made supplication to the Lord.
3 I pour out my prayer in his sight, and I pronounce my tribulation before him.
3 In his sight I pour out my prayer, and before him I declare my trouble:
4 When my spirit faileth of myself, and thou hast known my paths. In this way, which I walked, they hid a snare for me.
4 When my spirit failed me, then thou knewest my paths.
5 I looked toward the right hand, and saw: and there was none that would know me. Flight hath failed me: and there is none to require my soul.
5 I looked on my right hand, and beheld, and there was no one that would know me. Flight hath failed me: and there is no one that hath regard to my soul.
6 I have cried to thee, o Lord, I have said: Thou art my hope, my portion in the land of the living.
6 I cried to thee, O Lord: I said: Thou art my hope, my portion in the land of the living.
7 Attend to my petition: because I am humbled exceedingly. Deliver me from them that persecute me: because they are made strong over me.
7 Attend to my supplication: for I am brought very low.
8 Bring forth my soul out of prison, to confess unto thy name: the just expect me, till thou reward me.
8 Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name: the just wait for me, until thou reward me.
